Privacy Policy
Sumi · Effective 23 October 2026
Sumi is a Japanese learning app made by Brightsmilesolutions Ltd. In short: you don't create an account, your learning progress stays on your device, there are no ads and no tracking, and we never sell data.
Who we are
Brightsmilesolutions Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15838955), registered office: 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: brightsmilesolutionssupport@gmail.com.
What stays on your device
- Your learning progress, review schedule, streak and settings. They are stored only on your device, in storage shared with Sumi's widgets on the same device. We cannot see them.
- Reminders are scheduled on your device.
- Spoken readings use your device's built-in text-to-speech. On Android, if you have chosen an online voice in your phone's settings, the phone's speech service may process the text under its own privacy policy.
- When you share your scroll, the image is made on your device and goes only where you choose to send it.
What we receive if you buy Sumi Pro
Apple or Google handles your payment; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat, a subscription service, to check your purchase and unlock Pro. Through it we receive your purchase details (which plan, when it started, renews or ends, trial status, store country and currency) linked to a random identifier created by the app, not to your name or email. Like any internet service, RevenueCat also sees the IP address your device connects from. We use this to give you Pro, prevent fraud, and count our subscriptions. The legal bases are performing our contract with you and our legitimate interest in preventing fraud and running the business.
RevenueCat processes this data for us as our service provider and may store it in the United States, under safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. Apple and Google process payments under their own privacy policies. On Android, Google Play's billing library also sends Google technical diagnostics, under Google's own privacy policy.
What we don't do
No account, no email collection, no advertising, no tracking across apps or websites, no analytics SDKs, and no sale or sharing of personal data.
How long we keep it
Purchase records are kept while your subscription is active and afterwards for as long as we need them for accounting, tax and legal obligations. Data on your device is deleted when you use Settings › Reset all progress or delete the app.
Delete your data
To have the purchase record we hold about you deleted:
- In Sumi, open Settings › About and copy your Support ID.
- Email it to brightsmilesolutionssupport@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my data".
We delete the purchase record linked to that Support ID, which RevenueCat holds for us, and reply within one month. We keep only what accounting, tax and legal obligations require. Deleting the record doesn't cancel a subscription, so cancel it in Google Play or the App Store first. Your progress on your device is deleted when you use Settings › Reset all progress or delete the app.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under UK and EU data protection law and California law), you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, or object to how we use it. Email us with the Support ID shown in Sumi under Settings › About, so we can find your purchase record. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
Children
Sumi is a general-audience learning app and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has bought Pro and want the record removed, contact us.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
